Airflow Resistance Tester C-522
The PMI Airflow Resistance Meter follows the specifications of ASTM C522-03 and provides quick and accurate resistivity values in Rayls. Air is forced through the material at required velocity or flow rate and corresponding pressure drop is measured to provide the resistivity valves.

Principle

  • Air flow resistance is usually a constant in laminar flow region. When the flow is turbulent, air flow resistance tends to increase with increase in flow. The ASTM designation recommends pressure difference in the range of 0.1 – 250 Pa (0.0000145 – 0.0363 psi) and air flow velocities in the range of 0.05 – 5 cm/s. The recommended temperature of measurement is 22 ± 5°C. It is also recommended not to make adjustments due to changes in barometric pressure.

Function

  • The PMI Airflow Resistance Meter provides direct Rayl values to be used by QC and R&D engineers working on acoustic damping materials for various applications.
  • Specific Airflow Resistance is defined as the product of the airflow resistance of a specimen and its area. This is equivalent to the quotient of the air pressure difference across the specimen divided by the linear velocity, measured outside the specimen, of airflow through the specimen.
